Trump Admin Forces Topeka Schools to End Secret Gender Plans
The U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday it reached a resolution with Topeka Public Schools in Kansas after finding the district violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) by concealing students' "gender transition" plans from parents, The Federalist reports. Under Secretary Linda McMahon, the department's Student Privacy Policy Office ordered the district to end "gender support plans" created without parental knowledge and to disclose all existing plans to parents. The action follows an April 2026 finding that four Kansas districts allowed students to use different names and pronouns, and in some cases printed diplomas with new names, without notifying parents, and a June enforcement letter over related Title IX concerns involving restrooms, locker rooms and sports. Topeka complied; Olathe and Shawnee Mission reportedly have not, and face possible loss of federal funding. Washington and California have not confirmed compliance despite the Supreme Court's Mirabelli v. Bonta ruling affirming parental authority. Similar disputes are pending in Michigan, Illinois, Virginia, Maryland and New York.

When schools hide a child's name, pronoun, or gender-related plan from parents, they are not being neutral — they are substituting their own moral judgment for God-given parental authority and encouraging children to deny how God made them, male and female. This federal action is worth watching precisely because it uses existing law to restore that authority rather than expand government power. Christian parents should not assume their own district is compliant simply because no scandal has surfaced yet; the pattern across multiple states shows concealment has been common practice.
