The Parallel Polis — A Builder’s Course

In 1978, in a country where the state owned every school, every press, and every stage, the Czech dissident Václav Benda wrote an essay arguing that the resistance’s real work was not protest but construction: a parallel city, built quietly beside the official one — underground universities in apartments, hand-typed publishing passed reader to reader, a culture and an economy determined to live in truth while surrounded by a system of lies. He called it the Parallel Polis. Eleven years later the official city fell, and the parallel one was standing there, already staffed. The playwright became the president.

The book’s Chapter 16 brings that model home: not escapism, but the creation of a City of Truth inside the City of Man. If the captured school teaches lies, build the academy that teaches truth. If the captured platform censors, build the platform that hosts open inquiry. Not a retreat from the culture — the preservation of the seeds of civilization, so they can be replanted when the captured institutions collapse under their own incoherence.

Every other discipline in the school teaches you to see and answer — the field, the tactics, the arguments, the conversations. This course teaches you to build. It is the school’s sixth discipline, it belongs to founding members alone, and it is not a survey: it assumes a builder with a project, makes you declare one in the first module, and aims every lesson at it.

The nine modules

• The story told whole — Benda, Charter 77, samizdat, and why a lamplit city outlasted an empire with every gun
• The doctrine — why building is neither retreat nor a ghetto, and how to read your terrain to choose your mode
• The theology — Jeremiah 29, Daniel in the palace, and the early church that out-served Rome until Rome converted
• The case files — what worked, what collapsed, and the hardest file: institutions built by believers and recaptured in a generation
• The three immunities — engineering counter-capture in before the doors open: money that can’t be leveraged, charters that can’t be quietly amended, formation that can’t be outsourced
• Mode One — founding the parallel institution: the decision gates, the legal vessel, clean funding, the first twelve months
• Mode Two — the enclave inside a hostile institution: the persistent fellowship, the exact lines, the mutual-defense covenant
• Mode Three — the networked ecosystem: commerce, talent, capital, information, and mutual aid, connected before the pressure comes
• The capstone — your own Founder’s Charter: the structure, the mode, the immunities, the first year with dates, and the successor question answered on paper. Private, in your Field Book.

What a founder walks away with

• A declared build — the school, fellowship, platform, fund, or business you will build or strengthen — chosen against your actual terrain, not your temperament
• An immunity audit that designs your structure to still be yours in fifty years — the engineering the recaptured institutions never did
• A twelve-month plan with dates, a founding team doctrine, and a funding structure that can’t be leveraged against your mission
• The Founder’s Charter itself — one signed page that governs the build, private to you
• A seat among the builders — the founding members are the first nodes of the networked ecosystem the course teaches, and the fellowship being built around it

There is no free sample of this discipline — the other five disciplines and the whole platform are the sample. The Founding membership is the door.

And say it plainly: Founding is the Builder tier, bought early. It costs $197 a year, locked for life — less than standard membership’s own annual price of $249 today, and roughly a third of the Builder tier’s standard price of $49 a month once the 100 founding seats are gone. That is not a discount gimmick; it is the founding advantage, and it retires at seat 100. The Core Course’s final phase — running a group, training a successor, the long war — joins the Builder tier when it is written, included at the founding price.
