Dobbs returned abortion to the states, and the practice immediately moved onto ground where state legislatures and pro-life volunteers have little expertise: FDA drug approval, telehealth prescribing, and interstate mail. The story's own figures make the point — roughly two-thirds of abortions are now done with pills, 'even in pro-life states,' which is why Hawley's answer is a bill about an FDA application rather than a state clinic law. Arguing conviction at a statehouse does nothing against a package mailed from another state by a shielded prescriber.

The alert's most quotable numbers — one in ten women to the emergency room, abortions up about 21% since Dobbs — are doing the persuasive work, and the ER figure traces to a non-peer-reviewed analysis of insurance claims by an advocacy organization, not to an FDA finding; the FDA's own safety review was still unfinished as of 2026. Pushed hard and repeated as settled fact, a contested statistic breaks through into its counterside: the speaker, not the drug, becomes the story.

Sourced and smaller beats vast and unsourced, and it cannot be taken away from you.
