Sen. Hawley Pushes Federal Ban on Abortion Pill Mifepristone
Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., called for Congress to ban mifepristone, the drug used in the majority of U.S. abortions, during remarks at the Family Research Council Action's Pray Vote Stand Summit, as reported by The Gateway Pundit citing a Washington Stand report. Hawley said the drug sends roughly one in ten women who take it to the emergency room with serious complications, and that abortions have risen about 21% since the 2022 Dobbs decision — with about two-thirds performed using the abortion pill, even in pro-life states. He said he has introduced legislation to ban the drug nationally and challenged pro-life Republican colleagues to support it. Hawley also noted mifepristone's primary manufacturer, Danco, is based in the Cayman Islands, does not disclose its board or finances, and was initially funded by donors including George Soros and the Population Council. The drug's regulatory status remains under review in federal courts.
