Massachusetts Expands Legal Abortion Later in Pregnancy
On August 10, 2026, Governor Maura Healey signed legislation in Boston that updates Massachusetts' abortion law to allow physicians to rely on their own professional medical judgment, rather than fixed legal limits, when providing abortion care later in pregnancy, according to a press release from Mass.gov. Officials framed the law as addressing cases of serious pregnancy complications or fetal diagnoses discovered later in pregnancy, stating patients previously had to travel out of state for such care. Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, Health and Human Services Secretary Kiame Mahaniah, and Senate President Karen Spilka all publicly supported the bill, with Spilka crediting Senator Kennedy for sponsoring it. The release states the law removes 'legal uncertainty' for physicians and keeps abortion decisions 'exclusively' between patient and doctor. The text does not specify gestational week limits removed or added, nor does it define what constitutes 'medically appropriate care' beyond physician discretion. No pro-life legislators or organizations were quoted in the release.

Why Bible-Believing Christians Should Care
Scripture teaches that human life in the womb bears the image of God and is worthy of protection, not a matter left solely to professional discretion (Psalm 139:13-16). This law removes legal guardrails on later-term abortion in a state already among the most permissive in the nation, placing unprecedented authority in the hands of individual physicians rather than any defined legal standard. For Christians who believe life begins at conception and is sacred throughout pregnancy, this represents a further institutionalization of abortion as ordinary 'health care' rather than the taking of innocent life. Churches, crisis pregnancy centers, and pro-life ministries operating in Massachusetts should expect this law to be used to justify abortions later in pregnancy under broader medical judgment, and should prepare their teaching and advocacy accordingly.
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. — Psalm 139:13

From the book
We have to distinguish between the two. Legitimate expertise is technical competence exercised under moral authority, like a mathematics teacher explaining algebra. False expertise is ideology wearing the costume of science in order to usurp moral authority, like a counselor telling a child that his parents are unsafe because they hold biblical views on gender.
