ADF Warns Colorado District Over K-5 Sex-Ed Curriculum, Opt-Out Failures
The Alliance for Defending Freedom sent a formal letter this week to Roaring Fork School District in Carbondale, Colorado, demanding the district drop its 'Rights, Respect, Responsibility' (3Rs) sexual education curriculum for grades K-5, according to The Center Square. The letter, sent by ADF's Center for Parental Rights director Kate Anderson, cites kindergarten lessons asking children to identify body parts including nipples, vulva and anus, along with a PowerPoint depicting naked child anatomy. The curriculum also teaches a 'binary construct of gender' framework suggesting body parts don't determine whether a child is a boy or girl. ADF says the district's parental notification and opt-out system, required under Colorado's Youth Wellness Act, has been inconsistent — some parents received no notice, others learned only through their children, and some schools labeled the lessons simply as 'Health Curriculum.' Colorado law also exempts K-3 students from state human sexuality standards, which ADF says the district violated by using the material with kindergartners. The district has not responded to the letter or to The Center Square's inquiries. ADF says litigation remains 'on the table.'

Why Bible-Believing Christians Should Care
This story matters because it shows a public school district instructing five- and six-year-olds in explicit anatomical material while blurring parental notice under generic 'health' labels — precisely the kind of jurisdictional overreach parents are meant to be protected against by law. Scripture affirms that God made humanity 'male and female,' not a spectrum determined apart from the body He created. Christian parents should recognize that curricula teaching children their anatomy doesn't determine their sex directly contradicts this. Whether or not litigation follows, believers with children in public schools should treat opt-out and notification failures as a serious concern demanding documentation and accountability, not passive trust in district assurances.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. — Genesis 1:27

From the book
The most potent weapon against parents is Rule 3. Educators reframe moral and cultural questions as technical or medical ones. A dispute over explicit material becomes a matter of library science. A dispute over gender identity becomes a matter of mental health best practice. The activist tells the parent he is not an educator, using the appeal to authority to sever the parent's confidence in his own judgment.
