ADF Letter: Colorado District's K-8 Sex Curriculum Uses Graphic Anatomy Images

ADF Letter: Colorado District's K-8 Sex Curriculum Uses Graphic Anatomy Images
Status: HighSeverity: 2 - Directly Affects

The Alliance Defending Freedom's Center for Parental Rights sent a letter to the Roaring Fork Schools Board of Education in Colorado detailing explicit content in the district's "3Rs" (Rights, Respect, Responsibility) sexuality curriculum, according to The Western Journal. Director Katherine L. Anderson wrote that kindergartners are taught to identify nipples, vulva, penis, and anus using accompanying images, and are asked how they "like to be touched." Anderson's letter states the curriculum was implemented without requiring parental consent, operating instead on an opt-out basis. First graders complete worksheets on reproduction, and by second grade the graphic "Understanding Our Bodies" materials become mandatory, adding close-up anatomical imaging and instruction against the "binary construct of gender." The letter describes similarly graded content continuing through eighth grade. Anderson is calling on the district to revise the current opt-out policy to an opt-in model. The article states the images themselves were too explicit for the outlet to publish, though they are included in ADF's letter to the board.

Why Bible-Believing Christians Should Care

Scripture affirms that God made humanity male and female and calls parents, not the state, to raise and instruct children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Ephesians 6:4). A curriculum that exposes five-year-olds to explicit anatomical imagery, encourages them to explore touch preferences, and undermines the biblical understanding of sex as binary and God-given is not a neutral health class — it is ideological formation aimed at children too young to consent or object. That this operates by default (opt-out rather than opt-in) means many parents are unknowingly complicit. Christians should recognize this as the education mountain being used to disciple children into a worldview directly opposed to Scripture, and should press for full transparency and consent, not merely curriculum review.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. — Proverbs 22:6

The appeal to authority. The most potent weapon against parents is Rule 3. Educators reframe moral and cultural questions as technical or medical ones. A dispute over explicit material becomes a matter of library science. A dispute over gender identity becomes a matter of mental health best practice. The activist tells the parent he is not an educator, using the appeal to authority to sever the parent's confidence in his own judgment.
