WA Teen, Mom Sue State Over Male Wrestler Assault, Parental Rights
Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys filed a motion Friday in federal district court in Washington state seeking a preliminary injunction on behalf of 15-year-old wrestler Kallie Keeler and her mother, Stephanie Brown. According to ADF, Keeler was matched without notice against a male competitor at a December 2025 girls' wrestling tournament sponsored by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, and the male athlete sexually assaulted her during the match. Brown recorded the match and reported the assault with video evidence to coaches and school staff, but district officials reportedly waited 53 days to notify law enforcement, exceeding the state's mandatory 48-hour reporting window. School officials have since told the family their policy allowing males to compete on girls' teams will not change. The case, K.M.K. v. Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, asks the court to require the state to notify Brown before any future match against a male athlete and let her opt her daughter out without penalty, citing Title IX and a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling recognizing physiological sex differences in athletics.
