Study Disputes Claim That Youth Gender-Care Bans Raise Suicide Rates
A report from the medical watchdog group Do No Harm, covered by The College Fix on Oct. 7, found no evidence that state bans on "gender-affirming" surgeries, puberty blockers, or cross-sex hormones for minors increase youth suicide rates. Using three separate data-analysis methods, the group reported a statistically insignificant 0.3-percent reduction in suicides among 15- to 19-year-olds after such bans took effect, and it criticized prior studies claiming harm as methodologically unreliable. Southern Oregon University economics professor Travis Campbell, who replicated the methodology, told The Fix the report's estimates are too imprecise to rule out concentrated harm among the smaller group of minors whose treatment access actually changed — an estimated 200 out of 100,000 youth in his hypothetical. Campbell recommended linking death records with healthcare data to track gender-dysphoria-diagnosed youth directly. The underlying data cited includes 8,480 of 868,740 insured adolescents (0.98%) with a transgender- or gender-diverse-related diagnosis. No U.S. state or city is specified; the dispute concerns research methodology on existing nationwide bans.

Why Bible-Believing Christians Should Care
The claim that banning "gender-affirming" interventions for minors drives youth to suicide has been used nationally — including inside churches and denominations sympathetic to progressive theology — to pressure Christian parents, pastors, and institutions into affirming transgender identity as a life-or-death issue rather than a matter of biblical sexual morality. This study does not settle the medical debate, and the methodological disagreement between Do No Harm and Professor Campbell is real and worth tracking. But it is a reminder that the "affirm or lose them" narrative driving many institutions to abandon the biblical teaching that God created humanity male and female rests on contested, not settled, science.
Male and female created he them.— Genesis 1:27

Legitimate expertise is technical competence exercised under moral authority, like a mathematics teacher explaining algebra. False expertise is ideology wearing the costume of science in order to usurp moral authority, like a counselor telling a child that his parents are unsafe because they hold biblical views on gender.
