Pro-Life Advocate Abby Johnson Rebukes ‘Misguided Compassion’ in Clancy Murder Case
What Alinsky tactic is being used
2 of the thirteen rules are in play here — campaigns rarely run just one.
Rule 11
“If you push a negative hard and deep enough, it will break through into its counterside.”
The alert's own language is the evidence: sympathy for Clancy is labeled "conspiracy rot," and "Lindsay Clancy is guilty of murder" was asserted flatly while twelve jurors were still deliberating a charge that requires proof of criminal responsibility. That negative was pushed past what the record could carry — and it then broke into its counterside on September 4, 2026, when the jury hung (notes indicated an 11-1 split after about 38 hours) and Judge Sullivan declared a mistrial, leaving anyone who had announced the outcome publicly holding a claim the record did not support.
Counter-Rule 11 · Proportional Truth
Refuse to overclaim, even where it would help. One exaggeration hands the other side the only weapon that works permanently.
Say only what the docket says: she has never disputed killing Cora, Dawson and Callan; the contested question was criminal responsibility; the jury could not agree; a mistrial was declared and a status hearing was set for September 29, 2026. Refuse three specific overclaims this month — that a mistrial is an acquittal, that it means she "got away with it," and that the holdout juror's motives are known. If you already repeated the guilty verdict as fact, correct it in the same place you said it, before someone else does.
Rule 13
“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
The case has been frozen into a single personalized emblem for two camps — roughly 300 supporters praying outside the Plymouth courthouse on one side, a national pro-life figure declaring guilt on the other — with the actual survivors caught between them. The isolation then spread past the defendant: the defense publicly accused one unnamed juror of having "spurned the instructions," and Patrick Clancy, who buried three children and has asked the public to forgive his ex-wife, said through his attorney that a second trial would be "extraordinarily painful."
Counter-Rule 13 · Radical Solidarity
Stand publicly with whoever has been singled out. Isolation is the whole mechanism; refusing it disarms the tactic.
Stand with the people being singled out rather than joining either pile-on: do not repost speculation identifying or characterizing the holdout juror, and do not treat Patrick Clancy's plea for forgiveness as a position to be argued against. In your own congregation, name aloud that a grieving father asking for mercy is not an enemy of justice. Practically: when a thread starts naming individuals — juror, father, or defendant — post the court record instead of an opinion, or say nothing.
Chapter 3 sets out the rules; Chapter 15 answers each of them in turn. This is that pairing applied to this story.
