Lawsuit Filed Against Hillsborough School Board Over Alleged Student Abuse

The suit is itself an instance of an institution being made to live up to its own book of rules: reporting on the complaint says the board is accused of negligence for failing to prevent an inappropriate teacher-student relationship after a previous similar case at the same district. The claim is not that the district lacked screening and reporting rules, but that the gap between those written rules and actual practice was where the harm happened. That gap, if it exists, is what makes the filing damaging regardless of how the litigation ends.
Counter-Rule 4 · Radical Integrity
Close the gap between stated values and actual practice before anyone else finds it. This tactic only works where the gap is real.
The counter here is aimed at the reader's own house, and action item 4 is exactly it: this month get your church or ministry's child-protection policy in hand, check the adoption date, and confirm that two-adult rules, volunteer screening renewal intervals, and the named person who receives an allegation are actually being followed and not just printed. Write down each place practice has drifted from the document and give the list to your leadership. Refuse the temptation to treat a public school's lawsuit as proof that your own file is in order.
