Iowa Sued Over Access to Capitol as Satanic Temple Claims Discrimination
The ACLU of Iowa has filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa on behalf of The Satanic Temple, alleging that Iowa Department of Administrative Services officials violated the group's First and Fourteenth Amendment rights to free speech, free exercise, and equal protection, as well as the Iowa Civil Rights Act and Iowa Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The suit says TST was repeatedly denied or delayed access to host a holiday display at the State Capitol from 2024 through 2026, after a 2024 Iowa Senate bill sought (but failed) to ban satanic displays on state property specifically. The lawsuit asks the court to order officials to allow TST to hold its planned December event at the Capitol while the case proceeds. ACLU of Iowa attorney Shefali Aurora argued government may not favor one religious belief over another. No ruling has been issued.

Why Bible-Believing Christians Should Care
This case is not primarily a doctrinal dispute but a public-square access dispute, and Christians should watch it closely because the legal principle at stake — that government cannot grant access to some religious groups while excluding others based on viewpoint — is the same principle that protects nativity scenes, Ten Commandments displays, and Christian free exercise on government property nationwide. If Iowa singled out this group for exclusion rather than applying neutral, content-blind rules to all religious displays, that precedent could cut either way in future disputes. Christians should not assume this ruling is irrelevant simply because the plaintiff's beliefs are repugnant to Scripture.

From the book
He did not try to overthrow Rome. He held Roman officials to their own laws in order to protect the Gospel. When magistrates beat him without trial, he refused a quiet release and demanded they escort him out personally, asserting his rights as a citizen (Acts 16:37). That is Counter-Rule 4 applied to the state. When facing a corrupt trial he appealed to Caesar (Acts 25:11), using the appellate system to move his case upward.
