FOX6 Milwaukee Compares Crowley, Tiffany on Abortion Law

FOX6 Milwaukee Compares Crowley, Tiffany on Abortion Law
Status: MediumSeverity: 1 - Worth Knowing

What Alinsky tactic is being used

2 of the thirteen rules are in play here — campaigns rarely run just one.

Rule 11

“If you push a negative hard and deep enough, it will break through into its counterside.”

Both sides are pushing a negative past where the record supports it. Tiffany's statement in the FOX6 piece says Crowley "supports abortion up until birth" and would make Wisconsin "one of the most extreme abortion policies in the country," while Crowley's own campaign statement on the amendment was, per WPR, light on actual text beyond establishing "a fundamental right." The hardest claims in the story are the ones with the least documentation attached.

Counter-Rule 11 · Proportional Truth

Refuse to overclaim, even where it would help. One exaggeration hands the other side the only weapon that works permanently.

Before repeating either line this month, write down the three things that are actually documented: Wisconsin bans abortion at 20 weeks postfertilization and after viability, requires a 24-hour wait and an ultrasound, and Tiffany cosponsored the federal Heartbeat Protection Act (H.R.175, 118th Congress, cosponsored 1/9/2023). If you cannot source a claim to a bill number, a roll call or a dated quote, do not say it in a Sunday school class or a letter to the editor — the one exaggeration is what gets quoted back at you.

Rule 9

“The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”

The race is being argued in worst cases rather than in mechanics. Crowley told reporters that "women's rights are only safe as the next election," and Tiffany warns of the most extreme policy in the country — yet WPR notes a governor has no formal power over a constitutional amendment, which must pass two consecutive legislative sessions and then a statewide referendum. The feared outcome on both sides runs through a legislature and voters, not through the governor's desk.

Counter-Rule 9 · Courageous Realism

Name the worst case out loud and cost it honestly. Fear of the unnamed is doing most of the work.

Cost the worst case honestly on paper: list what a Wisconsin governor can actually do on this (sign or veto bills, appoint agency heads, direct enforcement priorities) and what he cannot (enact an amendment, overrule the Supreme Court's 2025 Kaul v. Urmanski holding). Then track the live mechanism instead of the slogan — the Planned Parenthood suit filed in Dane County in September 2026 against the 24-hour waiting period and physician-only rule, and any amendment resolution's first-session passage. Bring that one-page list to your group rather than a headline.

Chapter 3 sets out the rules; Chapter 15 answers each of them in turn. This is that pairing applied to this story.
