Christian Athletes Club Sues NJ District for Equal Mentor Access
Becket has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) against the Hopewell Valley Regional School District in New Jersey, challenging a policy that bars outside volunteer mentors from attending religious club meetings while allowing them at every other student club. According to Becket, FCA Huddles at Hopewell Valley Central High School and Timberlane Middle School met for years with adult mentors present without incident. In March 2025, the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent the district a letter objecting to outside volunteers attending FCA meetings and demanded the district act. Days later, the district adopted a new policy barring outside individuals from all religious club meetings, citing legal requirements it did not specify. FCA and two local student-led Huddles are asking the federal court to strike down the ban and restore equal treatment. The case is Fellowship of Christian Athletes v. Board of Education of the Hopewell Valley Regional School District. No ruling has yet been issued.

Why Bible-Believing Christians Should Care
This case illustrates a familiar pattern: a secular advocacy group objects to Christian students receiving mentorship in their faith, and a public institution capitulates without identifying any actual legal basis for doing so. If a district singles out religious clubs for restrictions it does not apply to secular clubs, that is viewpoint discrimination against Christian students, not neutral policy. Believers should watch how public schools respond to pressure campaigns that treat ordinary Christian fellowship as something to be contained rather than protected. The outcome will matter for FCA Huddles and similar Christian clubs operating in public schools nationwide, where the same tactic could be repeated.

From the book
Schools operate under mandates for safety, inclusion, and critical thinking. Activists weaponize those terms under Rule 4. Redefine safety to mean protection from opposing ideas and the school must now exclude traditional Christian viewpoints in order to fulfill its own stated mandate.
