What is actually happening

Someone has taken a real sentence and cut it until it means something you never said. The distorted version is doing what the accurate version could not, which is make you look like a monster to people who have never met you. What it is fishing for is a hot reaction, because an angry reply becomes the new story and buries the correction. Online platforms themselves are generally not treated as the publisher of what a user posts, so the person who posted it is usually the party in view. 1. Archive the post itself before it moves. Save the screenshot, the account name, the date and time, the link, and the share count. A deleted post you cannot produce is a post that never existed.
2. Assemble the real record. Pull the full audio or video, write out an exact transcript, and mark where the clip begins and ends. Publish it plainly, without heat, in one place you control and can point people to.
3. Send one written correction request. Name the post, quote what you actually said, and ask for a correction with the same reach. Keep the copy. One clear request on the record is worth more than twenty replies in a comment thread.
4. Get in front of your own people. Give the board, the staff, or the elders the full record from you this week, before anyone hands them the clip. Ask them to say publicly that they have reviewed it.
